Telling the story of Ann Arborites
For their inaugural collection, The Wearable Gallery, the creators of Peritia asked me to illustrate a design that encapsulated the Ann Arbor experience. As an alumna of the University of Michigan, this city is my second home. I wanted to do the place I love justice and communicate the experience shared by its inhabitants whether they were just here for a few years of schooling or a local Ann Arborite.

Illustrating togetherness through a monument
When illustrating this work, I wanted to replicate the glow and life I see walking down State St. at night. As a primary location when you think of Ann Arbor, the State Theatre’s sign symbolizes the rich history of the city and its people’s ability to come together - whether for a couple hours at the movies or a weekend-long festival. No matter the weather, the people are always moving and flowing through the streets.

Thus, Midwestern Blockbuster was born.
Resonating with the community members
Originally available on Vintage Black and Creme shirts, the original colorways of Midwestern Blockbuster resonated with those that called Ann Arbor home and sold over 150 shirts in its initial drop. Each drop of Midwestern Blockbuster sold out of inventory in all colorways, the sole items to do so for the brand.
